The short answer

  • Kumon Australia's published fees are A$100 to enrol plus A$160 a month per subject: A$2,020 in the first year for one child and one subject.
  • Kumon charges per child and per subject. Three children with one subject each come to A$6,060 in the first year.
  • PebbleYard is one family price for up to 3 child profiles. Its live price is in the chart below.
  • Kumon puts a person in the room. PebbleYard does not, and nothing online replaces that for a child who needs it.

What a year costs

Kumon fees are per subject and paid in advance each calendar month, with a one-off enrolment fee. This is the first year at the published fees for one subject each, with no discounts and the enrolment fee charged once per child.

First-year cost, one subject per child, AUD
  • PebbleYard Family · up to 3 childrenA$149
  • Kumon · 1 childA$2,020
  • Kumon · 2 childrenA$4,040
  • Kumon · 3 childrenA$6,060

Kumon figures are A$160 x 12 months of tuition plus A$100 enrolment per child, from Kumon Australia's fee page. Kumon does not say whether enrolment is charged per child or per subject, so confirm with your centre. PebbleYard is read live from our pricing.

What you are actually buying

What Kumon gives you

  • ✓Time at a centre, usually 30 to 45 minutes per subject.
  • ✓An instructor who decides what your child does next.
  • ✓A routine with someone other than you holding your child to it.
  • ✓Paper worksheets, away from a screen.

What to weigh

  • !Fees are per subject, so a second subject or child roughly doubles the tuition.
  • !The enrolment fee is not refundable in part or in full unless otherwise agreed.

What PebbleYard costs

PebbleYard is a set of short practice topics for children aged 5 to 11, sequenced to the Australian Curriculum v9.0 with an ACARA reference on every topic. A parent chooses what their child works on and in what order, can write their own topics, and sees results that are graded on our servers and kept as a record. The price is per family, not per child.

What PebbleYard does not do

Who should choose which

These are different kinds of help. Here is how to tell which one fits your family.

Choose Kumon if

  • Your child needs a person in the room, a weekly routine somewhere other than home, and an instructor's judgement about what to do next.
  • You want your child held accountable by someone other than you, and you will pay for that.
  • Your child works better on paper, away from a screen.

Choose PebbleYard if

  • You want short practice at home that follows what your child is studying this week, and you are happy to direct it.
  • You have more than one child and want one price rather than a fee per child per subject.
  • You want a record of what each child has done, without giving them an email login.

Frequently asked questions

At the published fees with one subject each, about A$4,040 for two children and A$6,060 for three in the first year, if the enrolment fee is charged per child. Confirm with your centre.

No. PebbleYard is priced per family, with up to 3 child profiles and 2 parent logins on the Family plan.

For schools

From the second year the enrolment fee drops away, so one subject for one child settles at A$1,920 a year.

Minimum age varies from centre to centre.

Not a like-for-like swap

A price table makes these look like substitutes. They are not. If your child needs a teacher in the room, an online program will not do the same job, whatever it costs.

It does not adapt to a child's answers.
  • It is used in a web browser rather than a native app.
  • There is no tutor, and it does not cover extended writing or oral language.
